215 Years Ago Today...

The 16 Carmelite martyrs of Compiègne were guillotined during the French Revolution.

You left out the splendid Poulenc opera "Dialogues des Carmelites" written in 1953 libretto by Georges Bernanos. "Dialogues" is an intensely moving opera and I believe this work is one of the masterpieces of 20th century opera.
